As many championships return from their summer breaks and action gets back underway, here’s a preview of Porsche Motorsport’s activities in September.

After a quiet August comes a busier September, with many championships back in full swing.

The FIA World Endurance Championship hosts two rounds this month, with the Lone Star Le Mans and the 6 Hours of Fuji as the season heads into its closing stages.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Battle on the Bricks as that series too reaches its climax.

The DTM heads to Austria for its seventh round of eight at the Red Bull Ring, while in the one-make series, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup visits Monza for its thrilling season finale.

Formula E is currently on its off-season break after a thrilling Season 11 finale in London in July. The all-electric championship returns in December.

Here’s a full preview of all the Porsche Motorsport activities taking place in September:

WEC: Lone Star Le Mans and 6 Hours of Fuji

The FIA World Endurance Championship is back with a bang in September, with two rounds in three weeks to kick off the second half of the season.

With just three rounds remaining, the championship heads to Austin, Texas first for the Lone Star Le Mans.

Running on September 7 at Circuit of the Americas, this six-hour endurance battle across a challenging layout always features fierce racing.

The track has 20 turns - 11 left and nine right - across 5.5km / 3.4mi, and takes in iconic sections such as the uphill run into Turn 1, known as Big Red.

Next, the championship heads East for the 6 Hours of Fuji at Fuji Speedway in Japan.

This historic track, nestled in the foothills of Mount Fuji, has been the scene of many iconic tussles as an endurance racing fan favourite.

At 4.56km / 2.83mi, this circuit might be shorter than COTA, but it is just as mighty.

Porsche Penske Motorsport claimed victory here last year on the #6 car’s path to world championship glory, and will be gunning to repeat the feat in 2025.

After a challenging start to the season, the team sits third in the Manufacturers’ championship on 111 points.

In the Drivers’ standings, the #6 pairing of Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor are fifth, with #5 drivers Julien Andlauer and Michael Christensen in 14th.

In the LMGT3 class, the #92 Manthey 1st Phorm crew of Ryan Hardwick, Richard Lietz and Riccardo Pera lead the standings by 13 points. The Iron Dames are 16th in the class.

IMSA: Indianapolis

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship heads to The Racing Capital Of The World, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, on September 21 for the Battle on the Bricks.

This six-hour thriller takes place on the Indianapolis Road Course, featuring 14 corners and partly running across the iconic Oval.

The race will revert to its previous format of 2h40m from 2026, so this is the last time for now to see IMSA cars run an Endurance Cup race at the Brickyard.

Porsche Penske Motorsport has featured on the podium for both of the last two races here, winning in 2023 before a third place finish for the #6 car on its way to the title last year.

The team currently sits first and second in the standings, with Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet leading the charge in the #6 car on 2314 points.

Defending champion Felipe Nasr and team-mate Nick Tandy are in second place in the #7 car on 2239 points.

In the Manufacturers’ standings, Porsche sits 90 points clear of second-placed Acura, and is in strong contention to retain its crown.

In GTD Pro, the #77 AO Racing pairing of Klaus Bachler and Laurin Heinrich are third, in hot pursuit of the leaders, while Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer are fourth in GTD in the #120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.

After this round, only the season finale remains: Petit Le Mans, at Road Atlanta, on October 11.

DTM: Red Bull Ring

The DTM heads to Austria’s picturesque Red Bull Ring for round seven of eight in this year’s championship.

The stunning Spielberg track features a 4.31km / 2.68mi layout with 10 corners, with plenty of elevation change on its hillside location.

It was built in 1969 before extensive rebuilding works in the 1990s and a name change to the A1 Ring. It closed in 2004 before reopening in 2011, and the DTM has raced there every year since.

After a stellar weekend at the Sachsenring, Ayhancan Güven has put himself firmly in title contention.

Winning both races, he now sits third in the standings, just six points behind the leader.

Team-mate Thomas Preining, who was in the podium fight in both races but narrowly missed out, sits fifth overall.

Manthey Junior Team driver Morris Schuring scored nine points in the second Sachsenring race and is 15th in the championship in his maiden DTM campaign.

While Manthey extended its lead in the team standings, Porsche closed the gap on the leader in the manufacturers' standings.

After the Red Bull Ring, just one round remains: The Hockenheimring season finale, from October 3-5.

Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: Monza

Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup holds its season finale in September, taking place at Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

The pinnacle of one-make series racing, the series has raced alongside Formula 1 since its debut in 1993.

The championship sees top drivers from the very best international Porsche one-make series customer teams compete against each other in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, having progressed through national Porsche Carrera Cups.

For its final round, the series visits the famous Monza circuit from September 5 to 9, supporting Formula 1’s Italian Grand Prix.

With thousands of passionate fans, this circuit near Milan is the perfect place for a thrilling end to the season.

Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti leads the championship heading into the final round after taking a third win of the season at Zandvoort.

The Schumacher CLRT driver is nine points ahead of Robert de Haan, with Flynt Schuring in third after he secured the rookie title with a third-place finish in the Netherlands.
