Theo Oeverhaus has been named Porsche Junior 2025 after prevailing in the selection process against strong competition from eight other drivers.
The 19-year-old from Osnabrück, Germany, was nominated by Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland and the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East.
Oeverhaus followed up his rookie title in 2023 with third place overall in the German one-make series, taking one win.
He took the title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, winning seven of 12 races on his way to championship victory.
Oeverhaus made his DTM debut in 2022, with a guest start making him the youngest-ever driver to compete in the series. He came third overall in the DTM Trophy standings.
Speaking after the announcement, he said: "Becoming a Porsche Junior is an incredible honor and a dream come true.
“It marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in my motorsport career, where I can learn and grow as part of the Porsche family.
“I am grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to giving my best in the upcoming season."
Even though the selection for the Porsche Junior 2025 did not take place on a race track, the candidates had to undergo an extensive evaluation process.
In addition to analysing driving activities, the candidates had to present themselves on the basis of various tasks and convince the selection committee of their merits.
The respective nominating series and the teams of the candidates were also included in the assessment.
The Porsche Junior programme is one of the central components of the Stuttgart-based sportscar manufacturer’s motorsport pyramid.
Since 1997, Porsche Motorsport has been supporting exceptional young talents on their way to professional motorsport, including a sponsorship package up to 225,000 euros each.
The programme consists of extensive coaching and training in the areas of vehicle dynamics, mental work, nutrition, fitness and media relations.
Alessandro Ghiretti, Porsche Junior 2024, will commence his second year in the junior programme in 2025.
The 22-year-old Frenchman won the Porsche Carrera Cup France and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in 2024 and finished the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with a 5th place in the championship.
Previous Juniors include Julien Andlauer, with the 2018 and 2019 Porsche Junior promoted to the works driver squad next year, stepping into the cockpit of the Porsche 963 in the top class of the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC.
