The Porsche 99X Electric has now seen the chequered flag for the final time, with Formula E’s GEN3 coming to an end. Here are some highlights from a hugely successful generation.
With the close of Season 12 at the London E-Prix in August came the end of an era, with
The
It was the most successful model of the third Formula E car generation, and secured three drivers’ titles, two manufacturers’ championships and a teams’ title.
Introduced for the 2022-23 season, the
Jake Dennis from customer team Andretti secured Porsche’s first Formula E title - the first of many to come.
While the team celebrated Wehrlein’s title, testing was already underway with the further-developed GEN3; the GEN3 Evo.
The Porsche 99X Electric was another title winner: Porsche won the Manufacturers’ World Championship and the Teams’ World Championship for the first time in the 2024-25 campaign.
Its success was rounded off with another Drivers’ Championship for Wehrlein, making him one of only two double champions in Formula E’s history.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, said: “The Porsche 99X Electric is one of the boldest and most advanced cars Porsche has ever built. When the brand announced its entry in 2017, Formula E was still at an early stage.
“Drivers had to change into a second car halfway through the race because one battery charge was not enough for the full race distance.
“Since then, the series has made major strides; developments that we have accompanied from a technological perspective in Weissach: better battery technology, more energy recovery, more power and 600 kW fast charging under extreme conditions. Porsche road sports cars benefited from this as well.
“With the Porsche 99X Electric, we have taken our place as a manufacturer at the top of electric motorsport. I am proud of that.
“On behalf of Porsche Motorsport, I would like to thank everyone involved in the project, including all partners and sponsors. They have all continued the story of Porsche Motorsport.”
With so much success under its belt, we reflected on some of the highlights achieved by the Porsche 99X Electric.
The first championship: Dennis crowned Season 9 winner
The Porsche 99X Electric made an immediate impact, with Jake Dennis securing the Drivers’ Championships with Andretti in Season 9 - the car’s first in the series.
Winning the opening race in Mexico City before going on to take a second victory in Rome, Dennis’s seven second-place finishes and two third places were enough to secure him overall victory.
Dennis was crowned at the first of the double-header London E-Prix races which rounded off the season in a triumphant moment for Porsche.
His championship win showcased the combined proficiency of the Avalanche Andretti Formula E team and the efficiency of the Porsche powertrain.
Back-to-back: Wehrlein wins in Season 10
Repeating the feat the following season, Wehrlein’s championship title was another huge milestone for the team in Formula E.
The 2023-24 season was the fifth for Porsche, and success came more consistently, kicking of with pole position and a dominant victory for Wehrlein at the season opener in Mexico.
Six more victories followed for the works team in Misano, Berlin, Shanghai, Portland and London – a new record.
Wehrlein not only became World Champion, but also claimed the title of best qualifier.
Team-mate António Félix da Costa equalled his record from 2020 with three wins in a row, taking more victories than any other driver with four wins, and even crossing the finish line first five times.
Thanks to Dennis, the Porsche 99X Electric took eight victories by the time the final race ended in London.
Teams and Manufacturers’ titles in Season 11
Season 11 saw Porsche complete the set of titles, winning both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships.
The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team secured its world championship title by a 26-point margin ahead of Jaguar TCS Racing.
The results included ten podiums and one victory, which came for Wehrlein in Miami. There were also three pole positions and seven fastest laps in the top ten positions.
In addition to factory drivers Wehrlein and da Costa, Jake Dennis and Nico Müller scored points for Andretti Formula E, while Cupra Kiro drivers Dan Ticktum and David Beckmann also added to the total.
In the final drivers’ standings, Wehrlein finished third, da Costa fifth, Dennis seventh, Ticktum 11th, Müller 15th and Beckmann 23rd.
Waving goodbye with another crown: Wehrlein does it again in Season 12
Wehrlein was crowned Drivers’ Champion once more in the 2025-26 season, taking the honours at the final round in London.
He won his second Formula E title after recording the most wins in Season 12 with three, as well as the joint most podium finishes (six) and joint most pole positions (four).
The victories came in Jeddah - Wehrlein’s 100th Formula E race - Shanghai, and the first of the two London E-Prix.
It was also a successful year for Porsche, as it added a second manufacturers’ title to the trophy cabinet.
Porsche secured the prize at the Tokyo E-Prix in July, with valuable contributions from the factory team and both the Andretti and Cupra Kiro customer teams.

The future beckons: GEN4 awaits
Earlier this year, Porsche presented the 975 RSE, the successor to the 99X Electric. The targets remain the same: wins and titles.
Unveiled at a special launch event at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, Porsche revealed the exciting new car to media and fans at an event on April 21 and 22.
The fourth generation car delivers the biggest performance leap in electric motorsport to date, with a top speed exceeding 330 km/h.
For the first time, aerodynamic downforce significantly increases grip. Together with new tyres and permanent all-wheel drive, this enables much higher cornering speeds.
For now, Porsche Motorsport has until October to develop its most extensive hardware package for Formula E to date as far as possible. After that, the focus will shift to the continuous optimisation of the software.
The Porsche customer team will also test the new car before the FIA homologates the specification in the autumn.
The 975 RSE first took to the track in November 2025 and had completed 1,860 test kilometres by early April.
