Porsche Carrera Cup Japan Announces 2027 Season Overview

  • A total of 12 races planned across four Japanese circuits in the debut season of the new 911 Cup

  • Joint events and a joint exhibition race planned with PCCA

  • Up to five drivers to be selected, with a ¥1.5 million entry fee rebate and up to eight sets of Michelin tires

Porsche Japan K.K. and the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan (PCCJ) Committee have announced the provisional calendar for the 2027 season and opened applications for the 2027 Porsche Japan Talent Pool Driver Selection Audition, aimed at young drivers aspiring to become future Porsche factory drivers.

The 2027 Porsche Carrera Cup Japan (PCCJ) season will mark the debut of the new 911 Cup (Type 992.2). By strengthening ties with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA), planning joint events and a joint exhibition race, and providing tangible racing support and development opportunities for the next generation of drivers, PCCJ aims to further enhance the pathway for drivers to progress from domestic competition to the international stage.

Talent Pool Program to Support the Next Generation of Drivers

The program will select up to five young drivers with ambitions to compete internationally in the future. Selected drivers will receive a ¥1.5 million entry fee rebate, along with support for their racing careers and performance development through the provision of Michelin tires, introductions to participating teams, coaching during race weekends, and training camps.

Tire support is planned to include up to eight sets per driver, comprising a standard allocation and additional sets awarded based on performance. Drivers who meet the requirements for racing results, language proficiency, and other criteria are also expected to be invited to selection opportunities leading to Porsche's international driver development programs.

Rather than simply providing financial assistance for participation, the program is designed to offer competitive race experience, professional coaching, access to teams, and opportunities to build an international racing career.

Taichi Watarai, who was selected for the Talent Pool Program for the 2026 season, delivered consistently strong results in the 2026 PCCJ season and secured the series championship before the final round. In 2026, he also competed in the GT300 class of SUPER GT with a Porsche 911 GT3 R, expanding his racing activities from Porsche one-make racing into the GT3 category.

Watarai was also nominated for the Porsche Motorsport Junior Programme Shoot-Out, scheduled to take place in November. His progression between racing categories is one example of how the program aims to help young drivers build a track record and advance to the next stage of their careers.

PCCJ will continue to pursue the highest standards of competition as Japan's premier one-make racing series while providing young drivers with opportunities to take the next step in their careers.

Debut Season of the New 911 Cup: 12 Races Planned Across Four Japanese Circuits

The 2027 season will be the first year PCCJ uses the new 911 Cup (Type 992.2). By adopting vehicle specifications shared with PCCA and other Carrera Cup series, PCCJ aims to strengthen collaboration between the series and create new competitive opportunities through joint events and joint exhibition races.

The provisional calendar features a total of 12 races across four circuits in Japan: Suzuka Circuit, Sportsland SUGO, Fuji Speedway, and Okayama International Circuit.

The races are scheduled to take place as support races for major events attracting attention both in Japan and internationally, including the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, the Suzuka 1,000km, and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) event at Fuji.
