Introduction
From North America to Asia over Europe, the Middle East and South America all the way to Australia and New Zealand, the world of Porsche One-Make Series has a lot to offer. Over the next few months, the various series will be introduced in groups of 3-4 in a monthly article to give fans more insight and a better understanding of the Porsche racing world.
Conquere the Nordschleife – With the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring
When it comes to competitive motorsport on the toughest and most famous racetrack in the world – the Nordschleife – there is no way around the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). The PETN is a national Porsche One-Make Series held within the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS, former VLN) and offers both established teams and newcomers the opportunity to enjoy a thrilling and successful racing season as the only Porsche One-Make Series on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
The championship looks back on almost 10 years of history: In 2016, Manthey introduced the ‘Cayman GT4 Trophy by Manthey Racing’ as a fair competition for the first generation of Porsche GT4 racecars, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981). In 2019 the successor generation 718 was introduced to the Trophy expanding the highly competitive field with an average of 17 starters. In Cup 3 class among the overall field of well over 100 cars until 2022 a whole new class (Cup 2) was added with the establishment of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). Since this year the series is a Porsche One-Make Series with Manthey as the organizer, ensuring the framework set by Porsche Motorsport with technical as well as spare parts support. From the very beginning the PETN became an important foundation for the NLS with both classes and over 30 competitors at times.
The championship includes a team and a driver ranking in both classes. In addition, each drivers' classification differentiates between “PRO/AM” for driver lineups consisting of professionals and amateurs and “AM” for purely amateur driver pairings. The driver-pairing that has collected the most points across both classes at the end of the season will also be crowned ‘PETN Overall Champion’. The racing calendar usually comprises eight races – seven with a distance of four hours and one race with a distance of six hours. The famous 24 hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife is not part of the championship, however teams can participate under the same technical regulations and with the usual support from Manthey.
Moreover, the PETN is committed to offering an extensive and wide-ranging program beyond the racetrack. Physiotherapy sessions and workshops focus on driver development while guided tours of the pits, sponsoring events or Manthey company visits give teams and drivers a package that they can not only benefit from themselves, but they can also offer to their respective sponsors and partners. The Porsche One-Make Series also works on establishing long-term partnerships and is inviting different companies to get to know the Porsche One-Make Series and discuss the potential for utilizing synergies. For example, the PETN hosted a team event for the Talent Pool together with the kart engine manufacturer and organizer of renowned karting championships Rotax RMC Germany. Another recent collaboration with GIANT involved a guided mountain bike tour to the Nordschleife.
