Robert de Haan wins the third round of the Porsche Supercup season

Robert de Haan came out on top after a hard-fought battle against his BWT Lechner Racing team-mate Marcus Amand. With air temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and track temperatures approaching 50 degrees at the Red Bull Ring, the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup turned into a battle in the heat. Second place went to Dutch driver Flynt Schuring (Schumacher CLRT). The Porsche Junior benefited from a puncture to the Porsche 911 Cup driven by Amand, who had been leading for much of the race. Third place went to South African Keagan Masters from the Proton Competition team.

After a perfect start, the two 911 Cups from the BWT Lechner Racing team had moved to the front of the 30-strong Porsche field. As the leader, Marcus Amand immediately found himself under attack from de Haan, but was initially able to fend off the challenges. With four laps to go, the Dutchman capitalised on a mistake by the Porsche Junior in Turn 1 and took the lead. On the penultimate lap, Amand then suffered a puncture. The Finn managed to finish in twelfth place.

Flynt Schuring benefited from this. Driving the Schumacher CLRT 911 Cup, the winner of the second round of the season in Barcelona had remained within striking distance of the leading Lechner duo throughout. Theo Oeverhaus now lies second in the championship standings. The German driver from the Martinet by Alméras team finished sixth at Spielberg. In the championship standings, he trails Schuring by five points.

Andrea Bristot was the best of the eleven rookie drivers, finishing in third place. After the start, there was contact between the Italian’s car and that of pole-sitter Paul Cauhaupé (FRA, Martinet by Alméras). As a result, Cauhaupé lost a number of places and eventually finished ninth. After the race, Bristot received a five-second penalty for repeatedly breaching the track limits. This caused him to drop two places.

Jacques Villeneuve brought the VIP 911 home in 25th place. The 1997 Formula 1 World Champion had started from the back row. The Canadian found his rhythm better with each lap and managed to move up five places by the finish.

Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, enjoyed the action in Styria despite the sweltering heat: “Customer motorsport has always been a top priority at Porsche, and the Supercup has been a cornerstone of Porsche’s customer motorsport programme for 33 years. That’s why I’m always happy to take the time to attend a race, talk to the drivers and team principals, and get a first-hand impression of what’s going on. Once again this year, we have a strong field of entrants in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Thirty drivers from 16 nations put on an exciting race – not least the eleven rookies, who are a real delight to watch. It was a hard-fought but fair battle from start to finish.”

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will contest the fourth race of the season in three weeks’ time at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium (17 to 19 July 2026).

Drivers’ comments after the race:

Robert de Haan (NLD/BWT Lechner Racing), 1st place: “Marcus and I were very quick and managed to pull away easily. I could have driven a bit faster and tried to put him under pressure. I’m really sorry about his bad luck. Everything went perfectly for me. After my unfortunate start to the season, I need every point I can get. That makes me all the more delighted with my first win of the season. I’d love for things to continue like this in the next few races.”

Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring (NLD/Schumacher CLRT), 2nd place: “Moving up from fifth to second place – that was more than we could have hoped for. I managed to stay out of all the trouble. Now that I’m at the top of the overall standings, all I can say is: I’m happy!”

Keagan Masters (ZAF/Proton Competition), 3rd place: “I’m very pleased with this result – even though, unlike in Barcelona, I couldn’t quite keep up with the pace of the leaders. Nevertheless, we got the most out of it. The start went very well, and the pace kept getting better towards the end of the race. Thanks to Bristot’s penalty, I managed to make it onto the podium.”

Porsche Junior Marcus Amand (FIN/BWT Lechner Racing), 12th place: “When I went straight on at Turn 1 and lost the lead to Robert, the tyre pressure warning light came on in the cockpit. That’s when I knew I was in trouble. I just tried to get the car to the finish line somehow. It’s a shame, because my pace was good. Now I’ll try to win at Spa.”

Jacques Villeneuve (CDN/Porsche AG), 25th: “I simply haven’t clocked up enough kilometres in the car yet. After the crash at the start in Barcelona, I deliberately stayed out of everything here. Once I’d found my rhythm, I was able to catch up with the drivers ahead of me and make up a few places. I’m starting to understand how the Porsche 911 Cup handles. The race pace was really good, especially on used tyres. Now I need to work out how to make better use of the new tyres’ peak performance in qualifying.”
