Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring celebrates his first Supercup victory

In his 14th race in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Flynt Schuring stood on the top step of the podium for the first time: the Porsche Junior driver from Team Schumacher CLRT won the second round of the season of the international one-make series in Barcelona. On the Formula 1 circuit in Spain, rookie Paul Cauhaupe from the Martinet by Alméras team secured second place. His team-mate and Monaco winner Theo Oeverhaus finished third. Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve failed to finish on his Supercup debut.

The outcome was effectively decided in qualifying. Due to a technical problem, Flynt Schuring was only able to complete a few laps. As a result, the Porsche Junior from the Netherlands had to settle for fifth on the grid. This stroke of bad luck turned out to be a stroke of good fortune for the race: Schuring had used only one of the two permitted sets of new tyres in qualifying. As a result, he was the only driver in the leading group to start the race with four fresh Michelin tyres.

Schuring capitalised on this advantage during the race: in the Porsche 911 Cup car of the French team Schumacher CLRT, he overtook his rivals with apparent ease. The 19-year-old also set the fastest lap of the race. After 16 laps, he crossed the finish line as the winner ahead of Keagan Masters. The Proton Competition driver from South Africa had started from pole position. However, due to a time penalty he received for crossing the track limits too frequently, Masters was demoted from second to fifth place.

This promoted Paul Cauhaupe to second place. The 20-year-old Frenchman also secured victory in the rookie classification. Third place went to another driver from the Martinet by Alméras team, the German Theo Oeverhaus. The winner of the Monaco race thus defended his lead in the championship standings. Flynt Schuring now lies second in the overall standings.

Marcus Amand, the second Porsche Junior, moved up four places from his starting position. The Finn finished fourth in the BWT Lechner Racing Porsche 911 Cup.

Jacques Villeneuve was unlucky. The 1997 Formula 1 World Champion was contesting his first Supercup race in the VIP 911, but was involved in a collision shortly after the start. The Porsche 911 Cup, painted in the colours of his helmet, sustained damage as a result. The Canadian retired in the pits.

“Two very young drivers at the front – this result makes me very proud. Congratulations to Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring on his first Supercup victory. Just as Andrea Bristot did a week ago in Monaco, Paul Cauhaupe proved this time with his second-place finish that we currently have a strong crop of rookies on the grid. It’s a shame that Jacques Villeneuve’s Supercup debut was over after just one lap – but that’s all part of racing. Who would know that better than a former Formula 1 world champion?” said Oliver Schwab, project manager for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will contest the third race of the season in two weeks’ time at the Red Bull Ring in Austria (26 to 30 June 2026).

Drivers’ comments after the race:

Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring (NLD/Schumacher CLRT), 1st place: “After my bad luck in qualifying, I was pretty downhearted – until I realised that it meant I had a trump card up my sleeve for the race. I managed to execute this unintended strategy perfectly. I hope I can celebrate my next victory in two weeks’ time at the Red Bull Ring.”

Paul Cauhaupe (FRA/Martinet by Alméras), 2nd place, Rookie Classification winner: “My start went brilliantly and I was able to challenge the leader, Keagan Masters, in the first two corners – unfortunately to no avail. At the restart following the safety car phase, I didn’t stand a chance against Flynt Schuring. But I’m still very happy with my first rookie victory.”

Theo Oeverhaus (GER/Martinet by Alméras), 3rd place: “Unfortunately, I messed up the start and with it my best chance of overtaking Keagan and Paul. I think I could have gone faster than both of them. But nobody stood a chance against Flynt today. He really deserved the win.”
