Formula E
Season 12

As a new Formula E campaign awaits, the Porsche Formula E Team returns as reigning champions. Here’s a preview of all the action coming up in Season 12.

Another year of the thrilling all-electric championship is fast approaching, with the opening round taking place in São Paulo, Brazil, on December 6.

The Porsche Formula E Team completed its set of World Championship titles last season, with the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ trophies joining the Drivers’ Championship from the 2023-24 campaign.

The team secured its world championship title by a 29-point margin ahead of Jaguar TCS Racing, with a total of 256 points. The results included ten podiums, one victory, three pole positions and seven fastest laps in the top ten positions.

With the team now having completed six seasons in Formula E, it has achieved 32 podiums, 13 race wins, and 3 world championship titles.

That brings the total to four world championship titles for the Porsche 99X Electric, with Jake Dennis’ Drivers’ title with Andretti in 2023.

The 2025-26 season marks the second and final season of the Formula E Gen3 Evo, before the Gen4 car debuts next year.

But before then lies ahead another exhilarating season, with 17 races across 11 countries. Here’s our preview of all the action:

Who’s who: The drivers

With a new team name comes a new driver line-up.

Porsche factory driver Pascal Wehrlein, who won the Drivers’ Championship in Season 10, will be joined this year by Nico Müller, who moves across from the Andretti Formula E Team.

Wehrlein, who has been part of the Porsche Formula E Team since August 2020, will again run the #94 on his Porsche 99X Electric.

Müller, who joined the factory driver line-up in August 2024, will run the number #51.

At the Andretti customer team, returning driver and Season 9 champion Jake Dennis will be joined by newcomer Felipe Drugovich.

Dennis, who sports the #27, has been with the team since the 2020-21 season, and has six wins to his name.

Drugovich, who will run the #28 for his first full-time Formula E campaign, made two cameo appearances with Mahindra Racing last season, with a best finish of seventh.

He was the 2022 FIA Formula 2 champion, serves as the test and reserve driver for the Aston Martin Formula 1 Team, and has competed in endurance races both in Europe and the US.

After taking the team’s first win since 2015 last season, Dan Ticktum returns with Cupra Kiro for Season 12, running the #33.

His team-mate is Pepe Martí, sporting the #3 for his Formula E debut as he moves to the all-electric championship from FIA Formula 2.

A globetrotting calendar

Another globe-spanning calendar awaits for Formula E in Season 12.

With 17 races across 11 locations, it is the longest calendar in championship history, after last year saw more thrilling action than ever before.

The championship visits São Paulo for the opening round in early December, returning after Christmas to Mexico City and Miami.

In February, the paddock heads to Jeddah for two races, before the European rounds kick off in Madrid in March.

The Berlin double-header kicks off May, before another double-header in Monaco.

The championship then heads to Asia for a return to Sanya and the island of Hainan off the southern coast of China in June, before a visit to mainland China in July, followed by the Tokyo double-header.

The season finale will again take place at London’s ExCel Centre, with an exhilarating double-header to close the campaign in August.

Successful pre-season test in Valencia complete

To prepare for Season 12, the teams headed to Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo for the official pre-season test.

Both Porsche 99X Electric sported a special design, featuring the striking prototype camouflage livery from the new all-electric Cayenne.

Wehrlein led the opening session of the test on the Monday, while Ticktum topped the times on Tuesday afternoon.

Müller adapted quickly to run inside the top five on Tuesday, while former team-mate Dennis was third-quickest and put in the second-most laps of the test behind Ticktum.

Martí did a stellar job among the rookies, with a best lap of 1m21.708s that was just 0.017s off team-mate Ticktum’s best effort.

Drugovich also had a strong start, putting in 289 laps to familiarise himself with the new machinery.

The test also featured an all-female test day, with Gabriela Jílková and Janina Schall taking over the race cars of Wehrlein and Müller.

While Jílková took part in the test sessions for the third consecutive year, 20-year-old German Schall, from Dornstadt in Swabia, made her debut at the wheel of the 99X Electric.

Looking ahead: The opening round awaits

For the first round, Formula E will visit the São Paulo Street Circuit at the Anhembi Sambadrome.

At 2.933 km / 1.822 mi, the track features 11 turns and takes place across 31 laps.

Set among the bustling metropolis of São Paulo - the most populous city in Brazil - this will be the fourth edition of this E-Prix.

Wehrlein took pole position for last year’s race, which was also the season opener, with António Félix da Costa clinching second place.
