Junior Programme
A chance for young talents.
The Porsche Motorsport Junior Programme has one goal: training young talents to become professional motorsport drivers. To achieve that, they complete a training program that supports them in all important fields, and helps them improve their skills.
The future of motorsports begins with our talented youngsters: This is a principle Porsche has adhered to since 1997. Back then, the like-minded partner was UPS – where speed, precision and dependability are valued no less than at Porsche itself. Result of the cooperation: the establishment of the UPS Porsche Junior Team.
Beside the success in sports, the Junior Team rapidly developed into an important young talent school for Porsche works drivers. Or, more precisely: for credible brand ambassadors of one of the world's most successful sports car manufacturers – with names such as Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb, Patrick Long, Michael Christensen or, more recently, Earl Bamber. All of them onetime Porsche Junior alums who made it to works driver status. Even the all-time greats of motorsport Dirk Müller, Lucas Luhr and Mike Rockenfeller started their careers in the Junior Team.
Participants of the International One-Make Series are eligible for the Porsche Motorsport Junior Programme. The most successful drivers are nominated by the officials and are then invited by Porsche Motorsport to come together for a screening and testing program.
Over a period of two days, the One-Make Series pilots will be put through their paces racing around the track as quickly as they can, showing their technical expertise and proving their analytical skills when setting up a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. In extensive interviews and by observing the candidates in the way they deal with TV and the media, we gain an in-depth insight into the participants.
To round off the overall picture, the young drivers undergo fitness, stress and mental tests. The winner is sponsored as a Porsche Junior throughout the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The candidates can be solely nominated via the International One-Make Series
The sponsorship contract is usually valid for a season. Beside a scholarship of up to 225,000 €, Porsche Juniors receive a comprehensive training program. Throughout the sponsorship, the Porsche Junior receives training to become a professional motorsport driver: Part of the schedule is the physical fitness, but also the mental resilience. The training plans are continuously adapted.
A driver coach is on hand as advisor for the race weekends, helps during the data analysis and optimizes the Juniors' track driving behavior. Media trainings, workshops concerning vehicle dynamics and attending factory and sponsoring events are further important building blocks for the career as factory driver.
Throughout it all, the Porsche Juniors have an expert team on hand for any questions. Generally, it is possible to receive up to two years of sponsoring. They may also select their team according to the list of criteria as defined by Porsche. The residual budget required to fund each engagement is also the responsibility of the Junior Driver.
