About

In 2022, Ryan Wood made a significant mark in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia as the Team Porsche New Zealand scholarship driver, showcasing exceptional talent and consistency throughout the season.

Wood dominated the qualifying sessions, achieving pole position in all six rounds of the championship—a rare and impressive feat. His performance was highlighted by a standout lap at Phillip Island, where he clocked a 1m30.9661s time, securing his sixth consecutive pole. This consistency placed him in close contention for the championship title, trailing leader Thomas Sargent by just 31 points heading into the final round.

The scholarship, part of Team Porsche New Zealand’s initiative to support emerging Kiwi talent, provided Wood with the opportunity to race with Earl Bamber Motorsport in the 991.2 GT3 Cup car. Wood concluded his debut Australian season in second place. In his final round at Philip Island, he claimed his sixth pole from six rounds and the Round Victory for the weekend. Wood’s performance didn’t go unnoticed as he was offered the opportunity to advance his motorsport career in Super2 with WAU.
