Porsche Formula E Team has unveiled its GEN4 challenger, the 975 RSE, at a special launch event at Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
Presenting alongside the championship’s other manufacturers, the team revealed the exciting new car to media and fans at an event on April 21 and 22.
Set to race from the 2026-27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the fourth generation car delivers the biggest performance leap in electric motorsport to date, with a top speed exceeding 330 km/h.
Taking place at the Le Castellet track, the GEN4 Unleashed event showcased the thrilling new cars and the championship’s progression into its fourth generation.
Day 1 focused on the championship itself, with record attempts, generational performance tests and on-track.
With all four cars on display, it marked the huge progress made from the series’ origins in 2014 to the upcoming new era.
For the second day, the teams took over, immersing fans and media in the 975 RSE and its capabilities.
The next era: Meet the Porsche 975 RSE
The new 975 RSE follows on from the current 99X Electric: the most successful Porsche single-seater to date.
For the first time, aerodynamic downforce significantly increases grip. Together with new tyres and permanent all-wheel drive, this enables much higher cornering speeds.
“The GEN4 shows how far electric vehicles have evolved,” says Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport.
“When the championship started in 2014, every driver needed two cars per race. One battery alone was not enough to cover the full race distance.
“Those days are long gone. Since 2024, we have been developing a race car that puts us on the level of Formula 2 cars. EVs are not only catching up with the standards we are used to; their strengths are becoming increasingly evident – on the track and on the road.”
For now, Porsche Motorsport has until October to develop its most extensive hardware package for Formula E to date as far as possible. After that, the focus will shift to the continuous optimisation of the software.
The Porsche customer team will also test the new car before the FIA homologates the specification in the autumn.
The 975 RSE first took to the track in November 2025 and had completed 1,860 test kilometres by early April.
