Voisin and Coates win at season’s fastest circuit
Porsche Carwow Carrera Cup GB 2026 / 2027 Junior, Callum Voisin (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport) from Bath started from pole position, and took a lights-to-flag victory in the first race at Thruxton. And Max Coates (Graves Motorsport) from North Yorkshire replicated Voisin’s result in the weekend’s second encounter, driving from a maiden pole position to his first win of 2026. There were two category victories for Stephen Jelley (XQS Team Parker Racing) from Leicester in Pro-Am, as he increased his championship lead over Oliver Jackson (JTR) from Surrey. Meanwhile, in the Masters battle, Carl Cavers (Century Motorsport) from Nottingham and Michael Keohane (Century Motorsport) from County Cork, Ireland, shared the spoils at the 160 mph circuit.
Voisin extends championship lead in Pro
The first 15-minute qualifying session in Hampshire set the grid for the opening race of the weekend, with Voisin snatching pole position from Stafford’s William Jenkins (Team Parker Racing). Voisin made a clean getaway to lead Jenkins at the start of Round Seven, with Archie Clark (XQS Team Parker Racing) from Leicestershire moving into third at the Campbell and Cobb complex. As Voisin gradually pulled clear of the chasing pack, a close battle developed for fourth between Isaac Phelps (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport) from Hertfordshire, Jack Sherwood (Team Parker Racing) from Leicestershire, Sid Smith (Graves Motorsport) from Essex, and Coates.
When Clark received a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits, he was relegated down the order on corrected time. Significantly, Phelps, Sherwood, Smith and Coates now found themselves in a dice for the final podium spot. Phelps overtook Clark on the final lap, however, just as the move was completed he also received a time penalty for the same offence, allowing Sherwood ahead on adjusted time. Voisin took his fifth win of the season, with Jenkins and Sherwood joining him on the Pro category podium. However, after the race, several time penalties for exceeding track limits were rescinded, promoting Phelps back to the final podium place, and moving Clark to fourth, and Sherwood to fifth.
Coates was the fastest driver in Saturday’s second qualifying session, driving to the maiden pole position of his Carrera Cup GB career. And Coates successfully defended his lead at the start of Round Eight, with Pro-Am category driver Jelley giving chasing in second overall, and Sherwood in third. Having started in ninth, Voisin followed his teammate Phelps as they advanced to fifth and sixth respectively. And, at the same time, Sherwood closed on Jelley for second overall, eventually finding a successful way to pass.
Voisin got ahead of Phelps for fifth on lap 11, and he quickly set after Jenkins in fourth. Despite Jenkins incurring a five-second penalty for track limits, Voisin overtook to cement the position. And Phelps followed his teammate’s lead, getting by Jenkins on the inside line at Campbell for fifth. Phelps soon received his own track limits penalty, demoting him down the order on corrected time. Coates was clear to take the chequered flag for his first win of 2026, and he was joined on the overall podium by Sherwood and Jelley. Meanwhile, Voisin completed his impressive drive from ninth on the grid to fourth – third in the Pro category results.
Jelley is the driver to beat in Pro-Am
Jacob Tofts (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Essex qualified ahead of his category rivals in Pro-Am, while Oliver Meadows (Team Parker Racing) from Warwickshire, and Jonathan Moore (JTR) from South Yorkshire set an identical lap time of 1:13.159. They would start Round Seven in third and fourth places in the category. Tofts was quickly overtaken at the start of the weekend’s first race, with Jelley assuming the category lead from Jackson, and Tofts relegated to third. However, when Jackson received a time penalty for making a False Start, Tofts moved up to second, with Meadows now third on corrected time.
In the closing stages of the race, Tofts mounted an attack on Jackson for ninth overall. Despite Jackson’s looming time penalty making their fight for pride rather than finishing position, the pair pushed hard, swapping places twice before Tofts got ahead conclusively in the run through Allard. When the chequered flag fell, Jelley took category victory, with Tofts in second and Meadows completing the first Pro-Am podium of the day.
Jelley topped the Pro-Am category drivers in the second qualifying session, and started from the front row of the grid for the weekend’s second race. Jelley maintained his advantage at the start, and despite losing a place to Pro category rival, Sherwood, he retained the Pro-Am lead in third overall. Behind Jelley came Tofts and Jackson, and in the latter stages of the race their battle intensified. However, despite his best efforts, Jackson could not gain an effective overlap. Jelley finished the race in third overall, and he was joined on the Pro-Am category podium by Tofts and Jackson.
Cavers and Keohane share Masters wins
Cavers qualified ahead of Keohane for both races at Thruxton, and he led the Masters category at the start of the weekend’s first race. Keohane overtook his rival using the outside line at the Club chicane on lap 14, however, he soon received a time penalty for exceeding track limits, handing victory to Cavers on corrected time.
Keohane quickly passed Cavers in Round Eight, and seemed to have the measure of his rival until the middle of the race. Cavers closed to within striking distance, however, their fight was diffused when he received a time penalty, leaving Keohane to enjoy his second category win of the season.
The championship will start the second half of the season at Donington Park, taking to the full Grand Prix layout on the weekend of 20-23 August.
