Andrew Rackstraw crowned 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion.
Andrew Rackstraw (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport) was crowned Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion following a nail-biting finale at Brands Hatch. Meanwhile, Sid Smith (Team Parker Racing) from Maldon in Essex, and Max Coates (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Richmond in North Yorkshire, joined the celebrations as they raced to overall victories. Three drivers arrived at the Grand Prix circuit with a chance of taking the Pro category title. Rackstraw emerged ahead, defeating Will Martin (Eden Motorsport) from Hastings in East Sussex, and Angus Whiteside (Century Motorsport) from Guildford in Surrey. It was equally close in Pro-Am. Despite taking two category wins in Kent, Coates lost out to Oliver White (Eden Motorsport) from Bath as he was declared champion. While Jonathon Beeson (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Crewe became a champion in Am.
Rackstraw is champion as Smith wins in Pro George Gamble (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport) from Nottingham qualified on pole position for Round 15, but he was slow away at the start. Smith took the lead as the front runners diced for position in the run through Paddock Hill Bend. At Druids, Smith and Gamble went wide, and Martin joined them in a three-car fight in the approach to Graham Hill Bend. Smith emerged leading Gamble and Martin, with Rackstraw not far behind. Rackstraw immediately attacked his chief championship rival in the run towards Hawthorn Bend, and he initially got ahead of Martin to take third, before Martin reclaimed the position.
Martin soon attacked Gamble for second, but Gamble appeared to be playing a team game, backing up Martin towards his Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport teammate, Rackstraw, and further igniting their championship battle. Smith was now able to pull away from his rivals to significantly increase his lead. On lap eight, Rackstraw attempted to overtake Martin at Sheene Curve but the move was denied. And as Gamble proceeded to grow the gap, Martin was left leading a train of battling cars, including Rackstraw, Whiteside, Sebastian Hopkins (Team Parker Racing) from Chichester in Hampshire, and Coates. Coates and Hopkins swapped places as the pack compressed.
At the flag, Smith took his second win of the season, with Gamble and Martin joining him on the overall podium. The Pro category championship battle would go down to the final race of the season. After the race, the winner drew the number six ball, reversing the top six grid positions for the weekend’s second encounter. This meant that Coates would start on pole position for the final race of the season.
The last race of 2025 would decide the championship, with Rackstraw and Martin in contention for glory. When the lights went out, Coates made a good start to lead the cars through Paddock Hill. Rackstraw and Martin diced for second, with the latter emerging ahead. Whiteside fell back, and he soon lost two further places as Smith, and Pro-Am racer, White, got through. As Martin pressured Coates for the race lead, a close battle for ninth overall developed between Hopkins, Oliver Jackson (JTR) from Reigate in Surrey, and Stephen Jelley (Team Parker Racing) from Leicester. On lap nine, Gamble incurred a five-second time penalty for track limits, relegating him down the order on corrected time.
On lap 12, Rackstraw’s car became unsettled through Paddock Hill, and the slight error gave his rivals a run at him through Druids and Graham Hill Bend. At Surtees, Gamble and Smith overtook, with Rackstraw now running in fifth. As things stood, and taking Gamble’s pending time penalty into account, Rackstraw was now sitting just two points ahead of Martin in the championship standings, and so he could not afford to lose further ground to keep his title hopes alive. At the end of the race, Coates took the chequered flag for his second overall win of the season. Martin was the highest placed Pro category driver, finishing in second overall, with Smith coming home in third, and Rackstraw crossed the line in fourth.
With his result from the final race, an emotional Rackstraw was crowned as provisional champion, ending the season just two championship points ahead of Martin. And in their close fight for third in the Pro category standings, Smith beat Gamble by the slim margin of five championship points.
White takes Pro-Am championship Coates was the leading Pro-Am category driver at the start of Round 15 – he led category championship rival, White. Josh Stanton (JTR) from Oxford went third in the Pro-Am order after a three-car battle with Jelley and Jackson. And as the race developed, Coates became involved in a fight with several of the Pro category drivers, passing Hopkins for sixth overall. Further back, White and Jackson made contact, with the latter spinning before continuing his race. At the flag, Coates took category victory, with White finishing in second and Stanton in third. White was now on the cusp of taking Pro-Am championship glory.
Coates started the weekend’s second race from reverse grid pole position, and he led the field at the start of Round 16, including Pro-Am category rivals White and Jenkins. As the cars approached Druids for the first time, Jackson suffered a spin before continuing his race, and he rotated again at the same corner shortly afterwards. White soon advanced ahead of Pro category driver Whiteside, while Jenkins engaged in a fight with Pro category racers Hopkins and Jelley. Coates initially came under pressure from Martin for the race lead, but he later built a gap, driving to the second win of his Porsche Carrera Cup GB career. Coates was joined on the Pro-Am category podium by White and Jenkins. And with his result, White was confirmed as provisional category champion.
Beeson is Am category champion Beeson was the Am driver to beat in Saturday’s qualifying session, and with his category pole position he did enough to secure the Am championship for 2025. Beeson maintained his advantage in Round 15, leading Carl Cavers (Century Motorsport) from Nottingham from start to finish to underline his dominance. Beeson led Cavers again at the start of Round 16, but he slipped backwards after a trip through the gravel trap at Paddock Hill. Beeson chased after his rival, however, he could not mount a challenge, leaving Cavers to snatch the final Am category victory of the season. The Rookie championship was already decided at Silverstone in favour of Hopkins. And in the championship for Teams, Rosland Gold By Century Motorsport topped the final standings.
