The drivers might be front and centre when it comes to motorsport, but there are many other team members working hard behind the scenes to strive for success.

Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is now well underway, with five rounds out of 17 now complete.

The whole team, as ever, is working hard to strive for success, both on-track and at home between races.

But who are some of the key players making sure the Porsche Formula E Team is fighting fit?

The first profile in our Meet the Team series comes from Team Manager James Lindesay.

Overseeing race team operations on and off-track, he is crucial to the team’s day-to-day running, and solving problems and optimising operations are second nature to him.

He joined the team in Season 7 after a varied career in single-seaters and endurance racing.

Here’s what James had to say when we caught up with him over the Jeddah race weekend:

How long have you been in your role?

“I have been in my current role since Season 7, so this is my sixth year. Time flies!”

Give us a brief summary of your career so far?

“I have been involved in many different forms of car racing, from single seaters to endurance, and now to electric cars, predominantly in operational & management roles, for the last 12 to 13 years. Some of the cars and championships I have been involved in include Formula Renault, World Series by Renault, GP2, Formula 3, DTM, WEC and Extreme E.”

What does a day at work look like to you?

“A day in the office involves any number of meetings, combined with following up on topics with various people from different departments in the project, and then depending on the timing, either post-event work or pre-event preparation. At the racetrack, it’s a completely different kettle of fish. First and foremost, I'm keen to ensure that everybody is healthy, a lot of things can happen when you're away and travelling and not in the comfort of your home. Then it's really primarily ensuring that everybody is working in the right direction, to their maximum and ensuring that we stay motivated and communicate well with one another.”

What's your favourite thing about your job?

“I wouldn't say that I have one favourite thing about my job. I would say some of my favourite aspects of my job are that I like to work with so many different people and personalities. Definitely the dynamic nature of my job means not one day is the same as the other. Actually, I like working under pressure. I like the stress of that, the good stress of working under pressure.”

What was it that drew you to Formula E?

“I had the chance to work closely with a manufacturer, and with that being Porsche, attracted me first and foremost. I had never really had any real exposure to electrification or electric mobility before, and so I think those two things combined attracted me to the championship.”

What's your favourite circuit on the calendar and why?

“It would have to be Mexico. One, because of our successful track record there, apart from this year….Two, the fans - I think it's an amazing energy that Mexico transmits and provides every year and that's really cool to see.”

How does it feel to be a member of the Porsche Formula E team?

“Big question! I would say, first and foremost, I feel grateful and lucky, as cliche as it sounds, to work at Porsche, with Porsche, alongside the people that work for Porsche. We have such a diverse and smart and driven group of people.”

What's your favourite memory from your time at Porsche?

“I don't have one favourite memory. I would say that my favourite memories come from a perfectly executed weekend with both cars on the podium. If I had to single that down to highlights, I would say winning the drivers and then the teams’ and the manufacturers’ championships. That would be my two highlights.”

Tell us an interesting fact we might not know about you!

“In my spare time, which is limited, I support our local football club as much as possible, and that includes co-training my two young boys, which is really hard work. But at the same time, it's very rewarding.”
